After weeks of heartbreak, Wilbur the donkey is doing far better than anyone dared hope. He’s been relocated to a farm in Citrusdal, and the video of him running free for the first time has the whole country wiping their eyes in the best possible way.
Cape Town just got another reason to brag: three South African hotels cracked the World’s Best Awards this week, with the Cape Cadogan in Gardens named Africa’s Best City Hotel. We knew, but it’s nice when the rest of the world agrees.
In March, seven Cape Town teenagers were given 18 hours and a brief: design a sustainable moon settlement for 600 people. They beat 109 competitors to win South Africa’s first-ever Space Settlement Design Competition at UCT, and now they’re heading to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center to take on the world. For Zayaan Abdurahman, 16, from Mitchells Plain, it will be his first time leaving the country.

Cape Town Open Nights at the South African Astronomical Observatory in Observatory opens the telescopes to the public tonight. It runs every second and fourth Saturday at 20:00, and tonight is one of those Saturdays. Dress warmly, bring the kids (under-6s are free), and prepare to feel appropriately small under a very big sky. |
