Hey {{first_name | Brew}}

Saturday is sunny, so the Cape is basically daring you to go outside. It’s World Mental Health Day, a Brazilian warship has pulled into Simon’s Town, and the Warrior Woman Awards finalists are in.

We’ve also got markets, a rock gig and a story slam lined up, plus a few food and drink spots worth a detour.

Here's what's brewing.

A word from our sponsor:

It's World Mental Health Day, and a Stellenbosch Business School professor is asking an uncomfortable question: what if the workplace itself is the problem? Gym memberships and mindfulness apps can't make up for chronic workloads, poor management or job insecurity, she says, and employers need to fix the conditions rather than just help staff cope with them.

Brazil's warship Barroso sailed into Simon's Town on Thursday to a 21-gun salute, which residents were told is a formal courtesy and no cause for alarm. It is in town for IBSAMAR 2026, with the South African, Brazilian and Indian navies exercising around False Bay until 19 October.

Cape Town's everyday heroes are up for recognition: the 29 finalists for the 2026 Warrior Woman Awards have been announced by Good Hope FM. They include Carmen Stevens, whose foundation has delivered more than 56.7 million meals to children at 701 schools, and Strand's Michelle Prinsloo, who has spent 35 years running a daily soup kitchen and school clothing bank. Public voting is open until 16 October.
