Hey {{first_name | Brew}}

Good morning, Brews. A Cape Town matric grad fed 300 people before heading to his own ball, and a retirement home’s residents shared the “I once was...” stories that make your CV look quiet. After that, there’s koeksisters with live jazz in Salt River, Freed Mushaga at Ganesh, Majozi at the Barnyard, and a free espresso class. Three food spots to try, and a fact about the Eiffel Tower to round it off.

Before you dive in, a quick note. CPT Brew is growing by over 200 new readers every day, and we want to make sure we’re building the right things for you as we expand. So we’d love your input on what we should build next. Vote in the poll below, it takes five seconds.

Huis Nuweland, a Cape Town retirement home, has put its residents on camera for a video of "I once was…" stories, and the CVs put most LinkedIn feeds to shame. One was a journalist in Zimbabwe, another bought clothes for Woolworths, and one managed a stable as a professional rider. The clip landed for Older Persons Month with a quietly brilliant message: see who they are today.

Dog people, mark the calendar. The Great Pup Parade returns to the Willowbridge Greenbelt on Saturday 7 November with a walking parade, dog awards and music. Every dog gets a free goodie bag, which is more than most of us get at work. The target is R200 000 for the South African Guide-Dogs Association.

While most matric learners were getting their hair and make-up done on the morning of their ball, 19-year-old Ronaldinho Norman was grilling chicken and frying potatoes with his family in Pelican Park and Eagle Park to feed about 300 people in need, before heading off to his matric ball.

Fact of the Day

The Eiffel Tower can grow up to about 15 centimetres taller in summer, because its iron expands in the heat.

That's your sip, Brews. Go be nosy somewhere nice.
