After 26 years on the water around Dyer Island and Gansbaai, Marine Dynamics says whale watching is as much about reading the ocean as finding the whales. Every trip gets assessed against marine forecasts and skipper judgement before departure, with monitoring continuing throughout, and its vessels hold Blue Flag status for safety and environmental responsibility.
This Sunday, Erin Goodman and Micaela Gillion are tackling Devil's Peak, Maclear's Beacon and Lion's Head in one day, 30km and over 2,000m of elevation, to raise funds and pads for Mamma Flo's fight against period poverty. R40 covers a month of products for someone who needs them, less than most of us spend on a coffee. Donations stay open until they've conquered all three peaks.
Tumi Ramokgopa closed out the World U20 Championships with back-to-back silvers, 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles inside two days, a personal best in the 400m. Team SA left Eugene with eight medals total, including an African U20 record in the men's 4x400m relay, their best haul since Nairobi 2021.

BURI has landed in the CBD with one job: doing the boerie properly. Spiced sausages in rolls or sandwiches, quick and flavour-forward, good for a work-break bite or a takeaway lunch.
Florentin on Loop Street is doing Mediterranean in the CBD, mezze, grilled plates and salads, dishes running R105 to R235. Central and walkable, good for a proper sit-down lunch or dinner without leaving town.
Redemption Burger Bar at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock does juicy burgers and loaded fries with a proper atmosphere, and you've got the whole market's shops and stalls to wander before or after. Solid weekend plan, especially if you make a morning of the Mill first.

Fact of the Day
African penguins at Boulders Beach are nicknamed jackass penguins because their call sounds like a braying donkey.
