A viral clip has South Africans abroad recognising themselves instantly, braais in the snow, dead silence when the anthem plays in a shop, and driving hours just to watch the Springboks with strangers who feel like family. Nobody loves South Africa like the ones who left, and this clip proves it.

Cape Town has tabled by-law amendments that would ban wild and exotic animals from circus acts within city limits. Animal welfare groups are celebrating the move, while McLaren Circus, the country's only remaining traditional operator, says it will formally object. Public comment is open until end of September.

The City is testing a food-waste diversion trial at Woodstock and Hout Bay drop-off facilities, giving registered households reusable containers to separate scraps for collection instead of the bin. The pilot runs until 30 March 2027, and results will decide if it expands citywide.

Blue Bird Garage Market in Muizenberg is the spot on Thursdays and Fridays, head there for Saewang, a family-run Korean street food stall prepared with love and known to sell out fast. Get there early.

Grumpy and Runt is turning out a PBJ donut that's winning over sceptics, sweet jam, nutty peanut butter and a soft centre with just the right crisp on the outside. Worth the detour if you're a peanut butter and jelly person.

Tambourine on Harrington Street cooks everything over open fire, small plates built from its own Khayelitsha farm project, District Six's most unpretentious splurge.

Adderley Street was once a canal called the Heerengracht, paved over with wooden blocks that still surface near the top of the street today.
