A Western Cape road rally just made an international shortlist. The Cape 1000 is up for Rally or Tour of the Year at the 2026 International Historic Motoring Awards. Its 2026 run raised more than R300 000 for charity, and the next one starts with a public Show & Shine at the V&A Waterfront in March.

Ultra runner Nicholas Burger sets off from Hermanus at 06:00 on Saturday on a 72km run to the penguin sanctuary in Kleinbaai. Seventy-two kilometres, all for a bird that mostly waddles. The money goes to the critically endangered African penguin.

Doughnut fans, take note. Pick n Pay is rolling out Dots to 150 stores nationwide, starting with 11 flavours that include filled, topped and bite-sized pop dots. The range will rotate, and stock depends on your branch.

Fact of the Day

Hawaii's Big Island is drifting northwest on the Pacific Plate at about 10 centimetres a year, aimed roughly at Hokkaido, and would arrive in around 63 million years if it never changed course.
