Sunday is the only day of the week that has a personality of its own, and Cape Town's version is a specific one. Slower coffee, a longer second cup, the vague sense that you should probably call someone back.
The city runs at about 60% today, which is exactly right. We've found five things worth leaving the couch for, and a few spots worth building the day around.
The free newsletter making HR less lonely
The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.
I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.
Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.
Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

Every Pick n Pay in the Western Cape is now a flood relief drop-off point, taking blankets, warm clothing, non-perishable food and baby supplies for families displaced across the Overberg and Cape Flats. If you're heading to the shops today anyway, it's a small detour.
The City is asking households to ease up on water after storms hammered the supply network. Translation: maybe skip the long shower today.
A Cape Town mom is publicly thanking a traffic officer who pulled over to change her tyre after a Vanguard Drive blowout, kids still in the back seat. Small moment, properly civic.

Down in Kalk Bay, Olympia Café still works on a chalkboard menu, a no-bookings line out front, and a bakery round the back through the red door. Croissants in the morning, fresh fish off the harbour at lunch.
The Blue Café has held a corner in Tamboerskloof for 124 years, with pavement tables, neighbourhood produce on the shelves, and a counter of homemade peanut bombs and cannelés that justify the walk.
For a quieter slot, Park Café in Vredehoek does the neighbourhood breakfast-and-cake routine the right way, with regulars who treat it like a second living room.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"There are two kinds of Capetonian: those who feel a south-easter coming, and those who married one."
