Hey {{first_name | Brew}}

Happy Saturday, Cape Town. South Africa’s Checkers Stickables craze is turning into pet food for shelters, and Colonel Bird’s Bath at Kirstenbosch has had a fresh makeover. Save a Fishie founder Zoë Prinsloo is also heading to the One Young World Summit.

Tomorrow is stacked with a garden gig in Lakeside and a relaxed Sunday Social at Barristers, and Oktoberfest lands at Killarney next weekend. If the early showers have you hunting for a warm table, Franseman and Oatlands Café in Durbanville are both worth the drive.

Here's what's brewing.

South Africa has lost its mind over Checkers Stickables, and for once the chaos is useful. Grown adults are haggling over glitter stickers and swaps, then turning the proceeds into pet food for shelters. Fifty stickers, one very full bowl.

Save a Fishie founder Zoë Prinsloo is heading to the One Young World Summit, which lands in Cape Town with over 2,200 young leaders from around the globe. She's earned her seat: her team recently hauled 450 alcohol bottles and 131kg of litter off a single beach in three hours.

Colonel Bird's Bath, the bird-shaped spring-fed pool in the Dell at Kirstenbosch, has had a fresh makeover. A new outlet valve makes draining and cleaning easier, the grouting has been replaced to fix leaks, and the sand at the bottom has been renewed, all while keeping the historic look of the oldest part of the garden.

Lello's in Three Anchor Bay is a family-run Italian trattoria with 72-hour Roman focaccia, pizza al taglio and bronze-extruded pasta. Add a dark-roast espresso or a house Negroni. Open 09:00 to 21:00 today.

Franseman is a new cafe style restaurant in Village Square, Durbanville, with green interiors worth the drive. Hearty breakfast and lunch dishes, a serious cake selection and good coffee. Open until 15:00 on Saturdays, and wearing green is encouraged.

Oatlands Café on Vissershok Road in Durbanville was meant to be a quick coffee stop. Then came the farm style breakfasts, homemade desserts and a countryside setting with plenty of lawn for the kids to run around. Open today, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

That's your sip, Brews. Pack a jersey for the early showers.
