Cape Town's plan to permanently cage around 60 baboons in Simon's Town has sparked protests, with residents and conservationists calling it inhumane, while the City argues it's the better alternative to culling. Both sides agree on one thing, urban encroachment has made coexistence harder than ever.
Robert Bolus, known as the "Smiling Walker," is setting off on 24 September to walk from Table Bay to Yzerfontein for Operation Smile South Africa. He's already raised close to half a million rand for cleft lip and palate surgeries on previous walks, this time chasing R13,500 and counting toward his next goal.
South African athlete Daniella Cowden has completed six full-distance Ironmans across six continents in six months, setting a Guinness World Record with an emotional finish in Hokkaido, Japan. The journey took her from Ironman South Africa in April through Brazil, Australia, Spain and Canada, ending with the traditional icy water shower at the line.

Fact of the Day
Cape Point isn't actually where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, despite what every signpost implies. Oceanographers put the real boundary near Cape Agulhas, about 150km further east, where the warm Agulhas Current collides with the cold Benguela Current.
