Briquette is bringing all the flavour of a backyard braai without the hard work, opening 23 September on a rooftop in Gardens. The menu is built around SA fire-cooking, braaibroodjies, T-bone steak, boerewors, prawns, lamb and chicken sosaties.

Minari Korean Kitchen is tucked into the Boardwalk Centre in Simon's Town, homemade bulgogi, tteokbokki, kimbap and jajangmyeon that'll have you going back for more. Small, unassuming and easy to miss, but worth the detour.

Zest in Sea Point keeps it more casual but no less serious about fire, wood-fire grilled dishes with that smoky, flame-kissed flavour, tucked away on the second floor of NewKings Boutique Hotel with Atlantic views.

Fact of the Day

Seal Island in False Bay was once one of the only places on Earth where great white sharks launch themselves fully out of the water to hunt, earning them the nickname "flying sharks." A Cape Town photographer, Chris Fallows, captured the world's first images of it, footage that went on to inspire Discovery's Air Jaws series.
