Sonny and Irene in Sea Point does the nostalgic-meets-now café thing better than most. Named after a real couple, it has the energy of a neighbourhood spot where regulars linger too long and the staff don’t mind. Coffee, generous brunches, beautiful interiors. Affordable and worth every bit of the walk along the promenade.
Woodstock Cave is the hike Cape Town keeps to itself. A trail up the Devil’s Peak flank delivers views over the City Bowl and a genuine cave carved into the mountain face. Free, takes about two hours return, and works on a rainy-gap day when the cloud is dramatic rather than miserable. The kind of thing you file away for years and then wonder why you waited.
The Strangers Club in Green Point is an explorer-themed garden café tucked down a side street most people walk straight past. Hearty seasonal food, a cosy garden setting, and a name that invites strangers to feel immediately at home. Affordable, genuinely local, and the kind of place that gets busier the moment word gets out.
