Bevin Reynolds was crowned Overall Female World Champion at the 2026 AIDA World Apnea Pool Championships, also winning the Natalia Molchanova Award for best overall female athlete. This after recovering from a motorbike accident and ACL surgery. The team also broke five Continental Records. South Africa, quietly, among the world’s best at holding their breath.
Greg from Hawston has spent years wheeling himself far and wide to collect bread tags for the Sweethearts Foundation, which recycles them into products and uses the proceeds to fund wheelchairs for South Africans on a national waiting list. Now he’s got his own set of wheels, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Hermanus and a generous local sponsor. The man who always went the extra mile now gets around a little more easily himself.
Seventy years of saving young lives. Red Cross Children’s Hospital marks seven decades of being one of the most beloved institutions in Cape Town, and on the African continent. Few buildings in this city carry as much weight, grief, and relief under one roof.

Honest Chocolate Cafe on Wale Street in the CBD is a small artisan bean-to-bar chocolate cafe where everything from the brownies to the muffins to the salted caramel tart is made in-house. The coffee is by Trump and Timbal, the courtyard is one of the better-kept secrets in the city centre, and behind the cafe is a gin bar that most people walk right past. Worth finding on a Wednesday afternoon.
The Drinkery is tucked above the courtyard at Heritage Square in the CBD, and most people walk straight past it. Old exposed brick, low lighting, deep lounge seating, and a cocktail list that takes itself seriously without being precious about it. The kind of bar you stumble into once and then tell people about for months. Best on a midweek evening when it’s quiet enough to actually enjoy it.
Imhoff Farm in Kommetjie is one of those places Capetonians forget exists between visits, then arrive and wonder why they don’t come more. Artisan studios, a petting zoo, a brewery, a coffee stop, and the kind of wild-feeling coastline nearby that reminds you the city is still quite small. Free to wander, and well worth a rainy-day detour.
