Eight years is a long time to wait, and the crew running boat trips off Simon's Town had all but given up. Then this week a young great white swam right up to their charter near Seal Island, the first one they've seen since 2018. One local naturalist called it something close to a second coming.

LA Farms in Green Point is part deli, part butchery, part eatery, and their Wagyu comes straight from the family's own West Coast farm. Their burgers let the meat do the talking with carefully balanced toppings and housemade sauces, and if you're really hungry, the Wagyu brisket burger is the one to order.
Caffé Balducci in Sea Point is the beloved Balducci name back after 30 years, now reborn at Piazza St John with all-day café culture from espresso and matcha through to wood-fired pizzas, Wagyu burgers and sushi. Two alfresco terraces, a serious wine list and that same Balducci energy make it worth the visit.
Lunacy Wine Bar in District Six is where a single weekday glass of Chenin quietly becomes three, helped along by generous glasses and a list that rotates through some of South Africa's best small producers.
