A group calling themselves Cape Town's mountain people has gone viral after a very earnest American tourist filmed them outside the Castle of Good Hope, sharing lore about coming down from the peaks each dawn before the sun burns their skin. Locals are split between charmed and thoroughly unconvinced, but nobody's arguing with the views.
Cape Town's skyline is set to get a new addition, Acsiopolis, a 41-storey tower planned for Bree Street, expected to become the city's second-tallest building at around 131m once complete. The mixed-use development will pack in 505 hotel rooms, 270 apartments and about 4,000m² of retail, with completion targeted for November 2028.
Montagu has been voted Kfm's Best Dorpie for the third time, beating out Robertson, Darling, Greyton and Yzerfontein in a year that pulled a record 440,000-plus votes. Elsewhere in the Best of the Cape awards, Bootlegger Coffee held its title for a sixth straight year, and Ashley's Family Restaurant in Goodwood won Best Family Restaurant for the fifth year running.

The Cape Milner Hotel runs a Tuesday special worth knowing about, any pizza except the prawn one, plus a glass of wine for R98. You don't get to pick the wine, but at that price, hard to complain.
Brew Lounge (not us, but great taste in names) is doing daily food specials and karaoke nights that get properly busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Go early if you want a table before the mic gets passed around.
My Diners, new to Claremont with plenty of buzz, is off to a decent but mixed start, the grill combo delivers and the vibe's great. Still new and finding their feet, worth a visit to judge for yourself.

Fact of the Day
The Cape honeybee, found only in the Western Cape, is the one honeybee on Earth where unmated worker bees can lay eggs that clone themselves into new workers, or even queens.
