Heading to Boulders Penguin Colony? It's moulting season, and SANParks is asking visitors to give the penguins space. For about three weeks, moulting penguins can't go to sea, live off their fat reserves and can lose up to 40% of their body mass. A fright that sends one into the water can leave it cold enough to die, so stay off Middle Beach, keep to the boardwalks and follow the signs. The moult peaks around December, so admire them from the boardwalk.

South African obstacle course champion Thomas van Tonder has crossed the underside of Bloukrans Bridge, 216 metres above the river, by hand. On Monday he swung along 600 suspended monkey bars in 47 minutes and 37 seconds, a world first, on a 280-metre course built for Red Bull Bridge Bars. It went up a steep incline, across the crown and back down, with sore hands the whole way. Most people just bungee off it.

Two baboons in Pringle Bay have found a rugby ball and are putting it to use. The video from Friends of Pringle Bay Baboons shows the pair batting it around, with no sign they're following the rules. The forward pass is the least of their problems.
