Hey {{first_name | Brew}}
A Cape Town artist has drawn the poster for next year’s Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek, and the toads of False Bay now have an AI watching their tunnel.
There’s also a free swing night at the Waterfront
Today’s Brew is poured. First, a word from the people who keep it free:
Silver Is Up 402% Since 2020. Gold, 186%
Silver has more than doubled gold's return since March 2020, even after a 53% correction from its January peak.
Our research team sees a familiar pattern. Silver's returns more than doubled gold's from 1974 to 1987. After the financial crisis, silver beat gold five-fold in three years.
The reason is size. In 2025, investors put about $15.6 billion into physical silver and silver ETFs, against $111.2 billion for gold. Small inflows move silver hard.
Silver is also in its sixth straight annual supply deficit. The Ultimate Silver Playbook explains what the team expects next. It's free.

Cape Town artist Michael Beckurts, 26, has designed the official poster for next year's Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek, only the second South African to get the job after Sam Nhlengethwa. Michael is known for drawing live at jazz gigs, projecting his iPad onto a wall above the band as he sketches. The festival runs from 19 to 21 March 2027. Not bad for a man who started at a wine bar's weekly jazz night.
Twenty-three volunteers spent last weekend in the Langeberg pulling out 5,334 invasive pine trees from Boosmansbos Wilderness Area. Some were four decades old, and all of them burn like kindling. The clear-out protects the water supply for about 15,000 people downstream.
Cameras in the toad tunnels under Peninsula Road in the False Bay Nature Reserve took more than 1.1 million pictures this season, and an AI model is now doing the looking. Only 384 of them show an endangered Western Leopard Toad, which adds up to about 130 toad visits. The tool was built by Joshua Salako at AIMS South Africa with Nature Connect, and a person still confirms every match. Fewer than one picture in a thousand has a toad in it, so it's a lot of empty floor.
