Two German tourists spent the night stranded on a treacherous stretch of coastal trail near Hout Bay after one injured his ankle, and getting them off the mountain took Wilderness Search and Rescue, NSRI, SANParks and an aborted helicopter extraction before the injured hiker was lowered 60 metres down granite slabs to a waiting rescue boat.
When Nina Duvenhage's car broke down between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, a bakkie full of strangers stopped to fix it on the spot, and later that day a man she assumed was homeless handed her a coin for the toilet, no strings attached.
At 17, Cape Town photographer Marguerite Oelofse's heart was failing at 10% function until a stranger's donated heart saved her life, and 26 years later she finally honoured that gift with "Our Heart," her first solo photography exhibition at Kalk Bay's Artvark Gallery.
