The city's dams have surged nearly 20% in a single week, a jump that would normally take months. Good winter rains rolling in from the southwest have added tens of billions of litres to the system in days. Whatever you had planned for the weekend, the Western Cape's water table is having a better one.
The Stormers swapped the training field for a hospital corridor on Thursday. The whole squad visited the Children's Hospital Trust, bringing armfuls of gifts, toys, and books. The kind of thing that takes about an afternoon and lands for a very long time.
A useful heads-up if you forage along the coast: a toxic algal bloom on the West Coast has triggered a health warning on wild shellfish. Mussels, clams, and alikreukel from the shoreline are off the table for now. Farmed shellfish from licensed suppliers is fine. Spread the word if you know anyone who collects off the rocks.

Everybody Loves Sundays w/Dwson brings deep, soulful house to Defected Studio in Paarden Eiland from 1pm through to midnight. Dwson is one of the most intentional selectors in the scene right now and this is a proper Sunday slow-build, open-air energy, good people. |

Carmen closes tonight at Artscape Opera House, a 2pm Sunday matinee that marks the final curtain on Cape Town Opera's run of Bizet's most operatic opera. If you have been meaning to go, this is literally your last chance. Tickets are still available. |

19:00 free |
Mojo Salsa Sundays kicks off with a free beginner class at 7pm, then the dancefloor opens at 8pm. Mojo Market, Sea Point. Two left feet are expressly welcome and there is no under-18s allowed, which is exactly the energy. |

Dalebrook Tidal Pool sits between Kalk Bay and St James and is one of the more quietly excellent places to swim in the city. Protected from swell, deep enough to actually swim, and free. Winter water means fewer people and better clarity. Go in the morning while the sun still hits the rocks.
Rose Cottage Café is tucked into Harfield Centre in Claremont, doing fresh ciabatta, sourdough, and bakes from 7am on a Sunday. The space is covered in roses and floral paintings, there is a roast chicken phyllo pastry pie on the menu, and dogs are welcome. Breakfast from R65. The kind of place that exists quietly and rewards the people who find it.
Four & Twenty sits in Chelsea Village, Wynberg, doing Parisian-style all-day breakfasts and seasonal pastries in a room that smells exactly as good as that sounds. Walk-ins only, no bookings. The handwritten blackboard changes weekly and the pantry sells things you will regret not buying on the way out.
