South Africa is getting another public holiday, Wednesday, 4 November, for the local government elections, bringing the year's total to 14. It's not exactly a rest day though, the IEC's rolling out nearly 40,000 voter-management devices and dedicated queue systems at busy Western Cape stations to try and avoid the long waits from 2024.

The Signal Hill to Lion's Head stretch alone produced over 18 bags last time, including dumped building rubble, and organisers are bracing for worse once summer crowds arrive. They're now asking the public to flag other litter hotspots in the park.
