Sixty-one swimmers spent Marine Protected Areas Day tackling twelve icy swim spots from Noordhoek to Muizenberg to raise funds for SANParks marine rangers, some of whom can't swim or fear the water despite guarding it daily. The 12-and-a-half-hour relay is helping fund swimming lessons and NSRI first-responder training, especially for stretches like Cape Point where backup can take a while to arrive. The fundraiser's about halfway to its R20,000 goal if you want to chip in.
