A pink jellyfish that eats other jellyfish, a city ranked among the world's best for the third time this month, and it's First Thursdays tonight.

Not a bad Thursday.

The Two Oceans Aquarium has a new resident and she is deeply unsettling in the best way. A Pink Meanie has just been added to the jelly gallery, only a handful of them have lived at the aquarium across its 30-year history. The catch: she eats other jellyfish, so housing her is complicated. Rare, cold-water, and wildly photogenic.

A new international study combed through over three million travel reviews looking for one specific phrase: "worth it." Cape Point came in 16th in the world. Out of everywhere. The results are a reminder that the thing at the end of your drive is genuinely extraordinary, even when you forget.

The Chinese consulate has formally honoured the Table Mountain rescue teams who have helped Chinese visitors in distress on the mountain. The ceremony recognised WSAR volunteers and TMNP rangers with certificates of appreciation. Quietly lovely.

Table Seven in Salt River is a quietly exceptional lunch spot with a blackboard menu that changes every day, pulled from whatever is seasonal and good. Come evening it flips to a chef's table format with a set menu and paired wine. Small room, big cooking, the kind of place that rewards knowing about it.

Kalk Bay Modern Gallery is a light-filled space on Main Road showing a strong mix of contemporary Southern African painting, ceramics, textiles, and jewellery. Entry is free, browsing is encouraged, and the work is genuinely beautiful. Exactly the kind of place to get stuck in for longer than planned.

The Time Ball Tower at the V&A Waterfront is one of Cape Town's stranger and more overlooked landmarks. Built in 1894 to help ships in Table Bay set their chronometers, the ball still drops daily at 13:00. Free to watch, impossible to explain to anyone who wasn't raised here, and exactly the sort of odd detail that makes this city worth paying attention to.

Quote of the Day

“Cape Town is one of the great cities of the world, as beautiful as any city anywhere.”

Breyten Breytenbach

That's your sip, Brews. Go find a wall with good art on it.
