A GoFundMe for 14-year-old Wernand has passed R2 million after a BI Phakathi video showed him collecting scrap metal to help support his family, roof half gone, no electricity or running water, and him effectively the man of the house. Over 4,000 people from around the world have chipped in, funding housing, school fees and food for a family that badly needed the break.

Jouds Cafe in Salt River is more about the aesthetic than the food, bright interiors built for the cutest photos, on the pricier side, and the menu doesn't quite match the visuals. Worth a stop if you're chasing a cafe date backdrop, maybe not the one for flavour purists.
Bosjes Chapel and Gardens is about 1h30 from Cape Town in the Winelands, sweeping gardens, a striking chapel worth the photos, and a decent lunch spot with the views to match. Good for a full morning out, pack a light jacket, the open lawns get breezy.
Tucked into Mush Slime in Frazzitta Business Park, Durbanville is a Scoop Station where you swirl your own colours and scents together, add sprinkles or charms, and walk out with a jar that's entirely yours, non-staining too. Open weekdays 10am to 4pm, Saturdays 10am to 1pm, good one for the school holidays.
