Heritage Month kicks off with National Koesister Day landing on a Sunday, and one Cape hotel group used the excuse to mess with a classic. Alongside cinnamon and coconut, there is now a Marmite-glazed koesister, cracked pepper and all, plus a rooibos and naartjie syrup that sounds almost sensible.
Spring officially arrived this week, which in Cape Town means bin bags rather than blossoms. The City's SpringCleanCT campaign is back, with mascot Bingo touring malls and school crossings with one message: bin it in the Bingo bin. Capetonians cleared 200,000 extra bags last year.
Table View's beachfront is in the final stretch of a three-year makeover, with ablution blocks at Dolphin Beach and Bokkomsbaai getting rebuilt and connected to the sewer network. The City reckons it will be done by mid December, dunes replanted, just ahead of festive season crowds.

Portuguese sailor Antonio de Saldanha became the first European to climb Table Mountain in 1503, scrambling up what is now Platteklip Gorge after losing track of his fleet. He named it Taboa do Cabo, the Table of the Cape.
