Happy Mandela Day, Cape Town. This morning: rooibos is going to the International Space Station, a pink buoy saved a surfer at Betty's Bay, and Bree Street is setting 1,600 places for lunch. Sunday has live music from Paarden Eiland to Noordhoek.
There's also a tiramisu pancake stack on Kloof Street that apparently earns the hype.
Stop Renting Software... And Learn How To Own It!
You're paying for software every single month that someone else built. Someone who didn't know your industry, your customers, or your problems. They just built something generic and charged you forever for it.
What if you built the fix yourself?
Justin Burns is hosting a free 3-day live event where he walks you through building, packaging, and launching a real app — no code, no dev team, no prior experience. Just your industry knowledge and the AI tools that make it all possible.
Over 50,000+ people have went through this event.
Join us July 22-24 and build the app your industry actually needs. Replays go to everyone who registers, but the building happens live.

South African rooibos seeds are heading to the International Space Station this October on a SpaceX Falcon 9. The mission launched from a Cape Town school, with Cederberg schoolkids running the ground experiments while their seeds orbit the planet.
Three young surfers were caught in a rip current at Betty's Bay this week. Two made it back to shore. The third was swept further out until his friends grabbed the nearest pink rescue buoy and swam it out to him. The 263rd life saved by the NSRI's Pink Rescue Buoy Programme.
The Western Cape's new computerised learner's licence test is humbling would-be drivers across the province: the pass rate has dropped to 17%. Randomised questions, fingerprint verification, and no more memorising the same 50 answers.

Scooters Pizza just opened at Stadium on Main in Claremont, bringing back the original menu with a few new additions. A chicken tikka and a Regina both landed fine, nostalgic, edible, nothing that demands a repeat order. Worth a look if the childhood memories are doing the heavy lifting.
Sweet Revenge on Kloof Street in Gardens has a tiramisu pancake stack that earns the hype, soft pancakes layered with coffee-soaked notes, a mascarpone-style cream, and a cocoa dusting to finish. Sweet without going cloying, and the tiramisu twist actually works. A solid stop for a weekend cafe crawl in the city bowl.
Crumbs & Cream in Sea Point is running three Nutella specials this weekend only, a warm cookie bowl stuffed with Nutella and topped with chocolate hazelnut gelato, a Nutella milkshake finished with toasted marshmallow fluff and a mini ice cream sandwich, and Nutella crepes loaded with more Nutella and gelato. Skip the gelato on the crepes if you want it classic. Limited run, so this weekend or never.
