Four Overberg conservation groups, including Grootbos Foundation and the Overberg Renosterveld Trust, have formed the Overberg Conservation Alliance to protect some of the planet's rarest fynbos and renosterveld. First project: restoring Heuningberg Nature Reserve near Bredasdorp after last year's wildfire. Leopards and secretarybirds have quietly gained a few more allies.

An NSRI SafeTrx alert saved three boaters stranded off Kleinmond on Sunday after their boat's engine failed eight nautical miles out. The skipper had already downloaded the free app, hit the emergency button, and a rescue crew was alongside within the hour. Everyone home dry, boat included.
